A 56‑year‑old Home Guard in Lucknow has been arrested after police say he strangled his wife and daughter with a data cable while they slept at their home in the Krishnanagar area.
The victims, Shyama Dulari, 50, and Pooja Sahu, 32, were found dead in the Bholakhera locality. Police received the call around 6 a.m. on Friday and took the accused, Ravindra Shankar, into custody for questioning. A case has been registered and the investigation is ongoing.
Investigators say Shankar had frequent domestic disputes with his wife. After a quarrel, she left home, taking jewellery, and a missing‑person report was filed. She returned a few days before the killings. Pooja Sahu had been married twice, both ending in divorce, and had been living with her father.
Senior officers inspected the scene and a forensic team collected evidence. After the inquest, the bodies were sent for post‑mortem examination. The police are still probing the motive behind the murders.
In a separate incident in the same police station area, 28‑year‑old painter Sukhpal was found injured outside his room and later died at Lokbandhu Hospital. Police allege he was assaulted during a dispute with friend Rajesh Rawat, alias Kali, while they were partying. Four police teams are pursuing Rawat, who is absconding, and Sukhpal’s body remains at the hospital mortuary pending family arrival and legal formalities.
