On Thursday, 8 October 2026, the Supreme Court adjourned the Punjab appeal against a High Court order that directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe corruption allegations linked to the Chief Minister’s office. The hearing was rescheduled for Friday, 9 October 2026. Justice Dipankar Datta directed that the file be examined by the bench’s puisne judge, Justice Sheel Nagu.
Justice Nagu, who served as Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court before his elevation to the apex court, said he would review the case once it reached him.
A day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the CBI to investigate allegations linked to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s office, the agency registered a case on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, against an officer on special duty (OSD) in the CM’s office and other public servants.
The CBI has booked six individuals, including two public servants, middlemen, and associates, following the registration of the FIR. The FIR alleges that the OSD and his associates influenced and manipulated postings of officers, including IAS and IPS cadres, departmental proceedings, policy formulation, administrative approvals, tender conditions, licensing matters, land‑use conversion issues, property disputes, and revenue and land‑related matters in exchange for pecuniary benefits, according to an official CBI statement.
