The West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) announced on the night of October 6, 2026, that voters who were removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) can apply to have their names reinstated by submitting Form 6. The CEO’s notice clarified that the list of deleted names is now available online for verification.
Eligible voters can check the ASDD (Absentee, Shifted, Dead, Deleted) list on the CEO’s website at ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in/asdsir and on the respective District Electoral Officer sites. Those identified on the list may submit Form 6 either online or through a Booth Level Officer (BLO) to have their names added back to the electoral roll.
According to the first draft roll released in December 2025, West Bengal had more than 58 lakh ASDD voters. Of these, 24.16 lakh were marked deceased, 32.65 lakh were shifted or absent, and 1.38 lakh were found to have duplicate enrolments.
After the final voter roll was published, over 27 lakh names were deleted following adjudication that deemed them ineligible. Political pressure led the Supreme Court to establish 19 appellate tribunals, headed by former Calcutta High Court judges, to review these cases. It remains unclear whether those whose appeals were heard will be able to use Form 6 to regain their registration.
Former West Bengal CEO Jawhar Sircar criticized the tribunal arrangement, arguing that the responsibility for appeals lies with the CEO and Election Registration Officer under the Representation of the People Act. He said the tribunals were a misstep that may prevent many voters from accessing Form 6, and described the current notice as a clear admission of wrongful deletions during the SIR process.
