Four drug peddlers were arrested and 16 kg of ganja seized during two surprise checks carried out by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Nemili police in Ranipet on Tuesday.
In the first incident, Nemili police conducted a surprise check on Panapakkam Main Road near Arakkonam town and apprehended four offenders: K. Vikram (26), B. Deepak Kumar (22), I. Yabesh (24) and S. Anjanappa (27). The officers seized 6 kg of ganja from the group, who were reportedly selling small quantities in villages around Nemili and Arakkonam. A case was registered and the suspects were taken to Central Prison in Vellore.
A separate operation by RFP and GRP personnel at Arakkonam railway station uncovered 10 kg of ganja on express trains. The gang of three attempted to flee when the team arrived but abandoned the consignment. RFP Arakkonam registered a case and is analysing CCTV footage to identify the smugglers. A probe into the incident is underway.
