On Tuesday, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed horror after seeing images of Rahul Gandhi being manhandled and dragged into detention during a protest against the disenfranchisement of 130 million voters.
Tharoor, who was in Berlin and could not join the INDIA bloc march, posted on X that the government’s reaction was “disgraceful” and that justice would prevail.
The protest, held near the Parliament House, aimed to oppose the government’s plan to disenfranchise 13 crore voters. Police forcibly removed Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several Congress MPs and leaders—including K C Venugopal, Charanjit Singh Channi, Pawan Khera, K Suresh, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Deepender Hooda, Praniti Shinde, Varsha Gaekwad and Imran Pratapgarhi—from the All India Radio premises.
The detained leaders were taken to the New Police Lines at Kingsway Camp and released around 10 p.m., according to the party. Tharoor said he could only express solidarity from afar due to a prior commitment in Berlin, but emphasized that his heart was with the protest and that justice would ultimately prevail.
