A six‑year‑old girl was killed in a road accident on Tank Bund early Sunday, when a speeding lorry struck her and a relative. The incident occurred around 2.30 a.m. and was reported to the police by Domalguda police inspector Amjad Ali.
The victims were identified as Sarakshi, 6, and Viswanath, 41, both residents of Jonnabanda in Old Alwal. Sarakshi was with her parents and elder sister for a birthday celebration, while Viswanath was a colleague and relative of Sarakshi’s father.
The group had watched a film in Kukatpally before traveling to Tank Bund, where they intended to cut a birthday cake near Hussainsagar. After parking their car, the family began crossing the road toward the lake. Viswanath, carrying Sarakshi, reached the middle of the road and stopped to allow vehicles to pass before continuing. A lorry coming from the Secunderabad direction was traveling at high speed and struck both Viswanath and the child.
Sarakshi was pronounced dead on the spot. Viswanath suffered severe injuries and was transported to Gandhi Hospital, where he later died during treatment.
