Police in Jeypore, Odisha, disrupted an inter‑state drug trafficking network on Saturday, seizing 3,700 small packets of cocaine, 11 larger packets of brown sugar, and arresting six suspects, including a woman.
The seizure included 40 lakh rupees worth of brown sugar, 20,000 rupees in cash, eight mobile phones, a bhujali and a knife. Each small packet weighed less than a gram and sold for roughly 800 to 1,000 rupees.
Investigators say the contraband was sourced from Khurda and Nayagarh districts before being transported to Jeypore for regional distribution. The operation followed a tip‑off that led officers to intercept a four‑wheeler.
Among those arrested is Rama Chhatriya alias Ramu, 35, a local supplier previously caught in a smaller brown‑sugar case. Other suspects include Prakash Kumar Chhula Singh, 52, Shaikh Aali, 26, Satya Priya Pattanaik, 49, from Khurda, Alok Chetty, 29, from Koraput, and Sarojini Barada alias Ranu, 36, from Nayagarh.
Several accused have prior criminal records, including murder, dacoity and theft. Preliminary interrogations revealed a well‑coordinated racket, and authorities are now pursuing additional members of the supply chain.
