A 46‑year‑old security guard was killed and another was injured when an iron gate collapsed on them at an aviation facility in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place at Indemar Aviation’s aircraft maintenance and repair project on the runway of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in the Mihan SEZ, Saturday morning, according to an official.

The gate collapsed while it was being opened to bring an aircraft that had been brought to the facility for maintenance after a technical fault. Six security guards were on duty; a section of the heavy gate fell onto two guards standing nearby, trapping them.

Sonegaon police arrived after the incident was reported, and other workers helped remove the fallen gate. The guards were taken to AIIMS Nagpur. Kailas Pundalikrao Chaphekar, a 46‑year‑old resident of Deoli in Hingna, was declared dead on arrival, while 25‑year‑old Abhishek Sukhdev Sangode of Kalamna is receiving treatment. Police have registered the case as an accidental death.
