Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Saturday that each player of the Indian women’s hockey team will receive a cash reward of ₹11 lakh for winning the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games.
Support staff members will also be awarded ₹5.5 lakh each. The reward comes after India ended a 44‑year wait for a women’s hockey gold by defeating defending champions China 1‑0 in the final, and the team has secured a berth in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister praised the team’s performance, determination and commitment, noting that the prize is in addition to the reward announced by Hockey India the previous day. He also highlighted the state’s ongoing support for hockey.
The Odisha government, which became the first Indian state to sponsor national hockey teams in 2018, will remain the official sponsor of both senior and junior men’s and women’s teams until 2036. The announcement underscores the state’s commitment to nurturing sporting excellence and its pride in the historic achievement of the women’s squad.
