Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) reported a 4% rise in coal transportation during the first half of the current financial year, moving 299.4 lakh tonnes of coal compared with 287.6 lakh tonnes during the same period last year.
The company’s focus on Telangana’s energy needs is evident, as it supplied 198.2 lakh tonnes of coal to the state’s thermal power stations, a 24.58% increase over 159.1 lakh tonnes supplied in the previous year. Notable growth was seen at individual plants: Kothagudem Thermal Power Station received 39.8 lakh tonnes, up 50.76%; Yadadri Thermal Power Station saw a 57.67% rise to 33.9 lakh tonnes; Bhadradri Thermal Power Station increased by 25.13% to 24.4 lakh tonnes.
Other key deliveries included 26.6 lakh tonnes to Singareni Thermal Power Station, a 27.27% jump, and 25.3 lakh tonnes to NTPC Telangana, up from 19.4 lakh tonnes. Supplies to NTPC Ramagundam fell slightly to 42.7 lakh tonnes from 43.5 lakh tonnes in the same period last year.
SCCL attributed the enhanced supplies to special measures taken amid El Nino conditions and the need to maintain uninterrupted power generation in Telangana. Acting on directives from state and central governments, the company coordinated closely with power sector agencies to boost coal production and transportation. Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Buddhaprakash Jyoti has been reviewing production and transportation targets daily with area general managers, while five senior officials monitor coal movement to thermal power stations. The company states that meeting Telangana’s power requirements is a responsibility beyond commercial considerations and is working in a planned manner to achieve its annual targets of 620 lakh tonnes of coal production and 650 lakh tonnes of coal transportation.
