A 23‑year‑old man suffered severe head injuries when a wooden plank fell on him at an under‑construction Metro bridge site in Thane district, Maharashtra, on September 20, authorities said.
The victim was walking near an under‑construction pier at the Kashimira Naka overbridge when the plank slipped through a gap in the elevated structure and struck his head. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
An on‑site inspection and CCTV footage revealed that the plank had been left unattended on the bridge after use. Investigators cited serious safety lapses, including unsecured construction materials and the lack of protective netting, barricades, or warning measures to restrict public access beneath the work area.
Police registered a case on Monday against the contractor’s storekeeper under Section 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent acts endangering human life and personal safety.
