Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Member of Parliament, visited the Nilambur region on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to meet flood victims and local workers in the aftermath of the Kottapuzha flash flood. The visit followed the tragic loss of six residents, including Sajita, who died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at T.K. Colony in Amarambalam.
During her tour, Ms. Vadra stopped at Sajita’s home and later met the victim’s relatives at Appankappu settlement in Pothukallu. She listened to their needs and assured them that she would bring their concerns to the central government and secure the necessary support for the family.
The MP also met workers under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (VB‑G RAM G) in Kurumbalangode, Chungathara. The workers expressed frustration that the new employment scheme had replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and had weakened its original intent. Ms. Vadra acknowledged these difficulties and pledged to raise the issue with the Centre, urging measures to address the workers’ grievances.
In Chungathara, she spoke with autorickshaw operators who highlighted rising fuel prices and spare‑part costs that were eroding their earnings. The workers called for an immediate fuel subsidy, an increase in pension payments through the Welfare Fund Board, and loans for vehicle maintenance. They also requested that the Transport Department allow existing autorickshaw permits to be transferred to new electric vehicles. Ms. Vadra promised to forward these concerns to the relevant authorities. Aryadan Shoukath, MLA, accompanied her throughout the visit.
