A customer in Cuttack has filed a police complaint after he believes he was served beef instead of mutton at a restaurant in the Jagatpur area.
The complainant, Smruti Ranjan Mohanty, was dining with his family when he noticed a red‑colored bone in the mutton curry. He asked the staff about the unusual appearance, and they replied that vinegar had been used to boil a large quantity of mutton, which they claimed caused the slight reddish hue.
Mohanty was not satisfied with the explanation and lodged a complaint at Jagatpur police station. An FIR was registered and police launched an investigation. The authorities seized the meat, consulted a veterinary doctor, and sent a sample to a laboratory for testing.
ACP Arun Kumar Swain, zone‑1, said that when police arrived at the restaurant, Bajrang Dal activists were also present. The meat was seized and sent for analysis, and further action will be taken once the laboratory report is received.
