A 27‑year‑old man from Jagadhri, Haryana, was admitted to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on 15 September after sustaining a severe head injury in a road traffic accident. He had initially been taken to Civil Hospital in Yamuna Nagar but was later transferred to PGIMER for advanced care.

The accident left Kuldeep Singh, a steel factory worker, with a fatal head injury. After two assessments by the Brain Stem Death Certification Committee on 17 September, brain‑stem death was certified according to established protocols. In the midst of profound grief, the family was counselled on organ donation and chose to donate all of Kuldeep’s organs and corneas.

The donation was successful: both kidneys and corneas were retrieved and transplanted at PGIMER. Two patients with renal failure received new kidneys, while two patients received sight through corneal transplantation, bringing renewed hope to those waiting for such procedures.

Kuldeep’s mother, Bira Rani, said the loss was devastating but the knowledge that her son’s organs were saving lives provided comfort. She added that her son’s legacy would continue through the lives he helped restore. Kuldeep’s younger brother, Parminder, expressed a personal commitment to raise awareness about road safety to prevent similar tragedies. Swati Thapa, the transplant coordinator, facilitated the donation process, and Dr Vijay Tadia, Nodal Officer of the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation North, praised the family’s courage and humanity for enabling the life‑saving transplants.
