Three people were killed and one was critically wounded when a speeding BMW crashed on Mumbai’s Coastal Road early Sunday morning, police said. The luxury vehicle was traveling from Marine Drive toward Haji Ali at a high speed when the incident occurred at about 5:20 a.m.
The driver lost control near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, according to the Coastal Road Control Room. The vehicle then collided.
All four passengers were transported to the nearby civic‑run Nair Hospital. Three of them were pronounced dead on arrival. Two of the deceased were identified as Shanay Gajjal, 21, and Dhirya Seth, 17. A third male victim, believed to be around 25, had not yet been identified.
The fourth occupant, an unidentified male about 20 years old, sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition in the hospital’s trauma ward.
Police have opened an inquiry into the crash. The Mumbai Coastal Road is a 10.58‑kilometre high‑speed freeway that links Marine Drive in south Mumbai to the Worli end of the Bandra‑Worli Sea Link.
