Three men were arrested on September 18 for the murder of a father and his daughter at the Avaradi Gram Panchayat office in Kittur taluk, Belagavi district, Karnataka. The suspects were brought before a court on September 19, where they were remanded into judicial custody.
The accused are Basappa Shivanappa Kundaragi, Sangappa Shivanappa Kundaragi and Madiwalappa Kundaragi. They allegedly killed their relative Rudrappa Shivanappa Kundaragi and his daughter Shashikala during a visit to the gram panchayat office, where the pair had gone to register their names in a property register following a court order.
According to police reports, a quarrel over the property escalated when the trio attacked the victims with sickles and stones, killing both on the spot. The accused also struck Rahul, who had intervened to stop the altercation, with a sickle. Rahul sustained injuries but survived.
A case was registered at Kittur Police Station (Crime No. 228/2026) under Sections 103(1), 109, 62 and 3(5) of the BNS Act‑2023. Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan formed a special investigation team that included Kittur Circle inspector Shivananda B. Gudaganatti, PSIs Bharat S. and G. G. Hampannavar, ASI Vastrad, and several station staff members. The team arrested the three men on September 18, and the SPs praised the swift action taken by the investigators.
