Environmental groups and community organisations will stage a Karwar‑Ankola‑Gokarna Chalo in Uttar Kannada on Thursday, aiming to press for the protection of the district’s rivers and forests. The rally will move through key coastal towns, drawing participants from across the region.
Organisers say the march is intended to raise awareness against projects they deem unscientific, particularly those that could threaten the Gangavali‑Karavali area. The initiative follows directives from Sri Gangadharendra Saraswati Swami of Sonda Swarnavalli Math, according to a released statement.
The rally’s primary goal is to generate public opposition to any developments that might damage the rivers, forests and broader ecosystem of the coastal zone. Activists stress that safeguarding natural resources is essential for the survival of future generations, framing the effort as a universal concern rather than a class‑specific dispute.
Participants will travel from Sirsi to Gokarna, where they will submit a petition to the gram panchayat before proceeding to Karwar to present another petition to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The procession will conclude in the evening after delivering a final petition to the Ankola Taluk Panchayat.
