On October 3, Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, announced a Jantar Mantar protest in New Delhi to confront Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The protest centers on accusations that Kumar oversaw irregularities in electoral rolls and the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The CJP has called for criminal action against the CEC and demanded his resignation.
In response, authorities imposed strict security measures and traffic restrictions across the capital. Police and Border Security Force jawans were deployed at key points, more than 55 metro stations were closed, and several rail services were reduced or cancelled to prevent unruly crowd movement toward sensitive locations.
The Ministry of Home Affairs approved a temporary internet suspension and supplied Delhi Police with additional Central Armed Police Forces personnel to bolster security. Security forces blocked roads on major routes such as Janpath and Ashoka Road, and held debriefing sessions with officials carrying tear gas munitions. Full coverage of the event is available elsewhere.
