Delhi Police detained several prominent Left leaders on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in preparation for a march to Jantar Mantar where the party intends to demand the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar.
Among those taken into custody were former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby, senior CPI(M) leaders Brinda Karat, M.V. Govindan, P.K. Sreemathy, and P. Rajeev, as well as Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas.
Video footage released by the police shows M.A. Baby being forcefully placed into a bus, an action that has drawn criticism from the party. The CPI(M) has described the police response as “brutal repression” and has urged its supporters to remain defiant.
In a statement posted to social media on October 10, the party said it would “overcome” the police action and added the slogan “Inquilab Zindabad!” to rally its members. The protest continues to unfold in Delhi as the party seeks to press its demands at the national capital.
