The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand Police announced on Monday, August 31, 2026, the arrest of Sameer Kumar, a resident of Bengabad in Giridih district, in connection with alleged irregularities in a state recruitment examination. The apprehension brings the total number of arrests to nine since August 18.
The investigation concerns the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination‑2023 (JSSC‑CGL), conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) in 2024. Authorities allege that the exam was compromised, prompting a Special Investigation Team of the CID to probe the matter. The case has drawn attention from job aspirants across the state.
Earlier actions include the arrest of four successful candidates on August 28, two additional suspects on August 27, and the detention of key accused Abhay Tiwari, a block supply officer, along with his wife Sushama Kumari and brother Akshay Tiwari, in late July and early August. The state government responded by announcing the cancellation of several recruitment tests, including the JSSC‑CGL‑2023, after protests.
The Jharkhand High Court subsequently stayed the cancellation order following a petition by successful candidates fearing loss of employment. The CID’s Special Investigation Team continues to examine the alleged misconduct, while the legal proceedings and further arrests remain under close scrutiny.
