Benaka, the Bengaluru Nagara Kalavidaru theatre repertory founded in 1974 by B.V. Karanth, will host a month‑long celebration in September to mark the late thespian’s 98th birth anniversary. Branded ‘Karantha Maasa’, the programme will feature a mix of theatre performances, workshops, music and other cultural events that aim to reflect Karanth’s artistic legacy and his commitment to bringing theatre to wider audiences.
The troupe will travel to Dharwad for a three‑show theatrical tour on September 5 and 6. A subsequent theatre festival is scheduled at Kalagrama in Bengaluru on September 16, opening with ‘Baba Karantha’, a biographical play that portrays Karanth’s life and contributions.
Workshops will be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra on September 18, 21 and 22, focusing on contemporary theatre practices and challenges, including the emerging role of artificial intelligence. The days will also feature staged productions of ‘Hayavadana’, ‘Sattavara Neralu’ and ‘Gokula Nirgamana’ alongside the workshops.
U.S.-based automotive retail technology firm Tekion announced a partnership with Benaka on Sunday to support Karantha Maasa. The collaboration forms part of Tekion’s corporate social responsibility programme and will provide resources for the month‑long series of events.
