The annual Onam celebrations, ‘Lavanyam 2026’, organized by the Tourism department, District Tourism Promotion Council, and the district administration, is set to kick-start on August 24 and will continue until August 30.
This year’s celebrations will feature around 40 cultural programmes staged across 15 venues in the district, including Durbar Hall open air auditorium, Veli ground in Fort Kochi, North Paravur, Kothamangalam, and several other locations. The main venue, Durbar Hall ground, will host the inaugural function on August 24, which will be followed by various cultural events such as Sinkarimelam, Sopana Sangeetham, and a cultural fete by differently abled people.
A musical concert by Stephen Devassy will be the highlight of the inaugural day. On August 25, Onasadya will be served at Kuttampuzha Panthapra colony, where residents will also be given new clothes. A musical concert by composer duo Berny-ignatius will be held at the Durbar Hall ground. The celebrations will also feature a spring festival showcasing cultural forms from various states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana, on Thiruvonam day on August 26.
The subsequent days will witness a range of cultural events, including a Pulikali performance and a live music fusion on August 27, and Kalamezhuthupattu and Sarppampattu on August 28. The week-long celebrations will conclude with a dance show by St. Albert’s College and a mega show by actor Guinness Pakru.
