A tragic accident occurred in Meerut on Saturday night when a truck collided with a pick-up vehicle carrying kanwariyas from Haridwar to Etah, resulting in the death of one devotee and injuring five others. According to the police, the incident happened when the truck sideswiped the pick-up vehicle, which was carrying a group of around 20 people from Senakala village. The injured have been admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut for treatment, while one of them has been brought to Etah for medical care.
The deceased, identified as Chandrapal, a 42-year-old resident of Sainakala, was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured include Vishal, 15, Ranjana Devi, 35, Sundarlal, 30, Atul Kumar, 18, and Avnish, approximately 30. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Elamaran G, confirmed that the truck driver involved in the incident has been arrested.
The body of the deceased was sent for a post-mortem examination, and it has reached Sainakala village. The other members of the ‘Kanwar Yatra’ group are safe. The police are investigating the incident and have taken necessary action against the truck driver.
