In a recent crackdown, Goshamahal police have apprehended five individuals for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and assault of two dry fruit traders in Begum Bazar. The arrested persons have been identified as Karan Kumar, Hanuman Ram, Devi Lal, Shambhu Kumar, and Jumar alias Jumar Gujjar.
According to the police, the complainants, Mohd Akbar and his brother Mohd Aleem, had been procuring dry fruits from Vinod Impex in Begum Bazar for approximately two years. However, they were accused of financial irregularities amounting to around ₹8 lakh, allegedly committed by forging the firm’s stamp over the past three months.
On August 20, Karan Kumar, the owner of Vinod Impex, and his associates allegedly confined the brothers inside a godown, assaulting them with their hands and steel pipes, tying their hands, and threatening to circulate videos of them on social media. The accused also allegedly called the brothers’ parents to the godown, confining and abusing them. A ransom demand of ₹2 lakh and the surrender of one car and one auto were made in exchange for their release.
The alleged confinement and assault continued until the early hours of August 21. The parties were subsequently taken to Goshamahal police station, where Akbar and Aleem informed the police about the assault and confinement. They were sent to Osmania General Hospital for medical examination and treatment due to their injuries.
Police registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to kidnapping for ransom, hurt, criminal intimidation, and other offenses. Following a tip-off, police apprehended the five accused on August 22 and seized a Swift Dzire, an Indica car, an auto, and two mobile phones during the investigation. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused, including Shubham Parihar, Tharun, Manish, Praveen, Pankaj, and Datta.
