Boy and Parents Die in Tragic Incident Over iPhone Dispute in Maharashtra

A tragic incident occurred in Deonai village, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, on Friday, August 21, 2026, resulting in the deaths of an 18-year-old boy and his parents. The incident was sparked by a minor dispute over a mobile phone. According to District Collector Vinay Gowda, the boy, Kunal Murlidhar Chandvade, had asked his father for a new iPhone, but his father, Murlidhar Chandvade, 48, refused to buy it for him.

The boy, unhappy with his father’s decision, went to the cliff of Khavdya Hill, Tisgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, at 10 a.m. and threatened to jump. The village sarpanch and other villagers attempted to pacify the boy, but he refused to listen. His father, trying to reason with him, eventually climbed up the hill to bring his son away from the edge of the cliff.

Tragically, the boy fell from the cliff, and in a desperate attempt to save him, his father was pulled down as well. The boy’s mother, Sangeeta Murlidhar Chandvade, 42, tried to rescue her son and husband but slipped and fell in the process, resulting in her death as well. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and the police investigation is currently underway.

The postmortem of the bodies has been completed, and they have been returned to their relatives. Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s health helpline 104, Tele-MANAS 14416, and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050.
