Eight Congress workers have been arrested by the Gurugram police for allegedly disrupting VIP security arrangements and obstructing government duty. The incident occurred on Friday when Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s convoy arrived in Gurugram and the opposition party workers waved black flags in protest. The protest took place after Saini attended a meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee and was on his way to a ‘Chaupal’ programme with GenH Startup Summit 2026 at Gurugram University.
The Congress workers, led by Rural District President Vardhan Rao, pulled out black cloths from their pockets and waved them at the chief minister’s convoy, alleging a delay in the release of the results for Gurugram University’s first-year students. The police have taken disciplinary action against some of its personnel, issuing showcause notices to the DCPs of two concerned areas and suspending three police personnel, including the SHO of Civil Lines Police Station. According to a senior police officer, the government respects every citizen’s right to democratic and peaceful protest, but it cannot be permitted to disrupt law and order, obstruct government work, or affect VIP security.
