Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel marked National Handloom Day on Friday by purchasing indigenous handloom products in Gandhinagar and calling for greater global market access for rural artistry. The move aims to promote India’s rich cultural heritage and support the backbone of the rural economy.
Patel urged citizens to prioritise the purchase of handloom products to accelerate the economic upliftment of traditional weavers. He emphasised that handloom products reflect India’s cultural heritage and form a crucial part of the rural economy. By supporting these artisans, citizens can contribute to their economic growth and well-being.
The chief minister visited Garvi Gurjari in Gandhinagar and purchased handloom products on the occasion of National Handloom Day. He took to social media to express his support for the initiative, stating that it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to promote handloom-handicraft products in the global market.
Patel interacted with workers at Garvi Gurjari and encouraged citizens to prioritise the purchase of handloom products. This, he believes, will accelerate the economic upliftment of rural artisans associated with the sector.
National Handloom Day is observed on August 7 every year since 2015 in memory of the Swadeshi movement that began in 1905. The day aims to ensure economic prosperity and respect for rural artisans and their families.
