On 6 August, the East Siang district administration convened office bearers of the Bogong Banggo Kebang, Bogong Banggo Yameng Kebang, Bogong Banggo Land Action Committee and All Bogong Students’ Union at the district collector’s conference hall to discuss land‑related issues affecting Pasighat township.
Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani chaired the meeting, urging respect for state symbols and peaceful dialogue. She highlighted that the administration has issued 780 notices and conducted 72 eviction drives against illegal occupiers of government land under the Arunachal Pradesh Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 2003, over the past year.
The groups presented five demands: cross‑verification of 2024‑25 land allotment proposals, eviction of illegal encroachers, inclusion of BBK and BBLAC in the District Land Allotment Committee, eviction from educational premises, and retention of three MAUP smart‑city buildings under local control. The meeting resolved that proposals returned by the Directorate of Land Management will be cross‑verified by administrative officers, and that representatives of BBK and BBLAC may file information or complaints with estate officers.
Encroachment matters were reaffirmed; eviction drives will continue strictly under the Act, and fresh encroachments will be removed immediately. The district revenue officer had already requested in February 2024 that non‑official members such as panchayat representatives and CBO heads be added to the DLAC, though state approval remains pending. The meeting also prioritized eviction of illegal occupants from schools, directing DDSE and BEOs to issue notices within seven days of the minutes.
Regarding the three MAUP smart‑city buildings at Pasighat market, the administration confirmed that overall control will remain with it and that shop allotment will favour enterprising local youths, including members of the Bogong Banggo community. SP Pankaj Lamba called for dialogue and assured that police would enforce the law against habitual encroachers.
The session ended with a joint commitment to maintain peace, harmony and orderly development in Pasighat township.
