The Namsai district police arrested Osina Chautang, a resident of Solungtoo village, on Wednesday after a search operation uncovered 82 grams of suspected heroin with an estimated illicit market value of about Rs 16.40 lakh.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team led by Namsai SDPO Kengo Dirchi conducted a raid at Chautang’s home. The officers seized the heroin during the search and took the suspect into custody.
Chautang was arrested in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. A case has been registered at the Namsai police station, and he was taken into preliminary interrogation where he admitted to procuring the drug from outside the district for distribution.
Investigators are verifying the confession and are working to trace the source of the heroin, identify forward and backward linkages, and dismantle the wider drug‑trafficking network active in the region. The operation was supervised by Namsai SP Sangey Thinley.
