INDIA Bloc demands 47.5L names restored

On Wednesday, leaders of the INDIA bloc met Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar to protest the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the national capital and to demand its cancellation and the restoration of 47.56 lakh names excluded from the draft voter list. The meeting took place on Oct 7, as reported by PTI.

According to a statement issued by the parties, the delegation comprised leaders from the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI(M), CPI(ML), RSP, AIFB and Trinamool Congress (TMC). They marched from Kashmiri Gate to the Delhi election office before submitting a memorandum to Kumar.

More than 47 lakh names have been excluded from the draft roll prepared during the SIR, with notices issued to over 33 lakh people over “discrepancies” in their records. The opposition bloc’s statement demanded that the notices be withdrawn and that all eligible voters whose names had been excluded be restored to the electoral roll.
