Imphal – Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Manipur in October, although the exact date has not been fixed, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Tuesday during a press briefing at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Mantripukhri.
The chief minister spoke to reporters after a cabinet meeting that celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service. The meeting also reviewed developmental projects undertaken in Manipur during Modi’s tenure and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the national goal of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
State spokesperson and MLA Sapam Ranjan Singh highlighted several initiatives. He cited the Jiribam‑Imphal railway line and the construction of the Noney Bridge, described as the world’s tallest railway pier bridge. He also mentioned the signing of a peace agreement with the United National Liberation Front (P) on November 29, 2023, the extension of the Inner Line Permit system to Manipur in December 2019, and the central government’s sanctioning of a 240‑kilometre fence along the India‑Myanmar border at a cost of Rs 3,223 crore. Additionally, the establishment of the National Sports University in Imphal was noted as a major development.
The cabinet reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Centre on peace, progress and development in Manipur. The press briefing was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, ministers Khuraijam Loken Singh and Th Radheshyam Singh, among others.
