Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced on Tuesday that the date for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s anticipated visit to the state has not yet been set, leaving the schedule open.
The invitation was extended during the chief minister’s trip to New Delhi in the last week of August, when he met the home minister to discuss a range of issues related to the violent crisis that has affected Manipur.
When reporters asked about a possible visit during a news conference attended by the chief minister, he said Shah was most likely to travel to Manipur within the current month of October, but the exact date had not been finalized.
An official release from the chief minister’s secretariat, issued after the August 27 audience, confirmed that Shah had agreed to visit the state by the first week of October. The release also noted that Shah would lay the foundation stone for a new medical college in the Naga‑majority district of Senapati, a decision that was taken earlier by the Manipur cabinet.
