Maharashtra receives over 6 lakh voter application forms during SIR

More than 6 lakh applications for new voters, objections and corrections have been received across Maharashtra’s 36 districts after the publication of draft electoral rolls during the continuing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with Pune recording the highest number, at 56,605, according to official data. The draft electoral rolls were published on August 31, 2026. Of the 9,78,54,049 voters, 7,71,65,562 were included, while 2,06,88,487 voters, or 21.14%, were placed in the ASDDO (absent, shifted, dead, duplicate, other) category.

The State poll body held special camps at polling stations to facilitate those who were left out to enrol again. It received 6,24,054 forms between August 31, 2026, and October 4, 2026, according to district‑wise data with the State office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). These included 6,05,097 Form 6 applications for new voters, 11,251 Form 7 applications (objecting to someone’s inclusion in the electoral roll, or seeking deletion of a name already listed), and 7,706 Form 8 applications (to change or correct mistakes in voter cards).

Pune topped the list with 56,605 forms, followed by Thane with 46,373, Mumbai Suburban with 38,094, Nashik with 32,691, and Jalgaon with 28,397. Nagpur received 16,009 forms, Mumbai City 13,858, and Palghar 14,448. Sindhudurg received the lowest number of applications, at 2,394, according to the data.

The claims and objections period has been extended until October 12, 2026. Disposal of notices, and of claims and objections, can be done until November 12, 2026. The final electoral roll publication is scheduled for November 16, 2026. Booth Level Officers have been asked to accept documents on WhatsApp and conduct home visits where required.
