The Jharkhand Police have registered a case of alleged rape involving a psychology trainee at the Central Institute of Psychiatry in Ranchi’s Kanke area. Officials said the case was filed with the Kanke police station after the trainee, who was studying clinical psychology and living in the institute’s postgraduate hostel, reported the incident.
The complaint identifies the accused as Sarthak Choudhary, a fellow hostel resident and M.Phil. candidate in clinical psychology. According to the statement, hostel regulations allow students to visit each other’s rooms. The survivor claimed she entered Choudhary’s room on the night of June 28 around 10 p.m. for study and practice related to psychological assessment exercises.
She said that after spending time in the room she felt dizzy and the accused offered her water from a steel bottle. She initially refused but drank it after repeated insistence. The survivor alleged that her condition worsened after drinking the water, and when she tried to leave the room, Choudhary raped her. She subsequently approached the police.
Kanke police have registered an FIR and begun an investigation. They are questioning the accused, examining evidence and recording the survivor’s statement. Investigators are also scrutinising the crime scene and other relevant material. Police said further legal action will be taken once the investigation is complete.
