The Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) is preparing for elections as its current term nears its end. A delimitation report and updated electoral roll have been finalized, according to Deputy Chief Minister and District Council Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Tynsong explained that the delimitation committee had worked closely with the council, ensuring that constituency boundaries and voter lists were accurately matched. He highlighted the committee’s role in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
The report was formally accepted by the Governor, with the District Council passing the recommendations. Tynsong noted that the executive committee of the GHADC will review the report, and the Governor will sign off on the final version.
In addition to the delimitation work, a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll will be conducted. The updated roll is scheduled for release on October 26, and the SIR will be applied to the GHADC electoral list.
The Returning Officer for Garo Hills will oversee the electoral roll for the GHADC election, ensuring that tribal voters are properly registered and that the roll reflects accurate data.
The GHADC election is slated to take place on April 17, marking the next phase of democratic representation for the region.
