Kolkata Metro Railway announced that it will operate night‑long services on its Blue and Green Lines during the peak days of Durga Puja, and will also extend service hours on the Purple, Yellow and Orange Lines to ease travel for devotees. The extended schedule is intended to allow people to visit pandals more comfortably and reduce commuting times between them.
The night‑long operations will run on Maha Saptami (October 17), Maha Ashtami (October 18) and Maha Navami (October 19). On Maha Panchami (October 15) and Maha Sashti (October 16), the Blue and Green Lines will operate from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. The Blue Line will run 284 services each day on those two days, while the Green Line will run 240 services. From 1 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning, the Blue Line will run 248 services on the three peak days, and the Green Line will operate 192 services from 1:30 p.m. to 3:59 a.m.
The Yellow Line (Airport to Noapara) will run between 7:18 a.m. and 9:20 p.m. on Maha Panchami and Maha Sashti, and between 3 p.m. and 10:53 p.m. on the three peak days. The Purple Line, connecting Joka and Majerhat, will operate from 6:40 a.m. to 9:26 p.m. on the first two days, and from 3 p.m. to 10:55 p.m. on the following days. The Orange Line will run from 7:40 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. on Maha Panchami and Maha Sashti, with no services on the stretch for the next four days.
Metro Railway urged passengers to purchase smart cards or book tickets via the AAMAR KOLKATA METRO app to avoid crowds at counters, and requested commuters not to overcrowd trains or block doors during the six‑minute intervals. Earlier, the railway had announced extra weekend services to accommodate shoppers during the Durga Puja period.
