The Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Left parties plan to march to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office tomorrow at 1 p.m., according to party sources. The protest is part of an ongoing street demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The joint march will head toward the CEO’s office at Kashmere Gate, NDTV reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, MPs from the INDIA bloc staged a march toward the Election Commission of India headquarters, demanding the resignation of the CEC. The protest was halted by security personnel midway. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, climbed police barricades, waved the tricolour and was briefly detained along with his sister and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Rahul Gandhi said that around 300 MPs from both houses were stopped from meeting CEC Gyanesh Kumar and his two colleagues. After the protest, the INDIA bloc leaders staged a sit‑in at Akashvani Bhavan, were removed by police and detained that night. The AAP and DMK abstained from that protest, while last week the AAP and several left‑wing student organisations such as SFI and AISA had protested against the CEC at Jantar Mantar, with several participants detained.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju of the BJP criticised the opposition’s protest, calling it “drama” and urging parties to stop the drama and serve the people if they wish to obtain a mandate. IANS
