On October 4, the Public Works Department (PWD) of Tripura announced plans to create a single digital platform that will consolidate information on all current and planned infrastructure projects across its departments. The initiative, called the Integrated Transport Network Development Plan (ITNDP), is part of the World Bank‑funded Tripura Urban Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project.
The ITNDP will compile data on existing infrastructure, ongoing projects and future proposals. It will cover roads, bridges, railways, goods transport and airports, and will also integrate communication related to agricultural products, markets and international trade with Bangladesh. The plan proposes to identify the communication systems needed to expand cross‑border trade and will consider villages, markets, major roads, railways, goods transport centres and border areas together.
The PWD aims to prepare and adopt the ITNDP within the next one and a half years. The plan will provide a long‑term roadmap showing what type of transport infrastructure will be required in the future.
Specific elements of the plan include the development of 416.47 km of rural roads, two testing laboratories for rural products, and passenger transport centres. It will also identify how agricultural products from different areas can be collected and taken to markets, where transport centres are required, and which routes should be connected with railways or major roads.
