Spain secured a 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic in Oviedo, keeping their unbeaten start to the UEFA Nations League intact. Coach Luis de la Fuente introduced nine changes from the squad that beat Croatia 4-1 earlier in the week, with new signings Ivan Fresneda and Roberto Fernandez making their debuts and returning players Fran Garcia, Robin le Normand and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya rejoining the lineup.
The match began with Lamine Yamal opening the scoring in the fifth minute with a curling shot into the corner of the Czech net. A swift Spanish move a few minutes later threatened to double the lead, but the Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky denied Pedri and later stopped a second attack. Rodolfo Hernandez finished the second goal three minutes after the break, after a quick counter‑attack.
In the second half, De la Fuente swapped out Barcelona winger Alex Baena and midfielder Victor Munoz for Victor Munoz and Yeremy Pino, a change that seemed to loosen Spain’s midfield control. The Czech Republic regained momentum when Jiri Slama hit a low shot that beat goalkeeper David Raya, narrowing the score to 2-1. A controversial moment came when Ryan Naderi’s shot appeared to score for Spain, but it was ruled out for a prior foul on Le Normand. The Czech side was further weakened when Ladislav Krejci was sent off in the 85th minute, and Mikel Merino sealed the win with a late goal after a swift break.
In Group C, Estonia defeated Luxembourg 1-0 at Tallinn’s A. Le Coq Arena, earning their first Nations League victory and moving to five points with a chance to finish second in the group. Estonia remains unbeaten but has yet to win a match, while Luxembourg sits with three points.
Other league updates: Switzerland topped League B with a 2-1 win over Slovenia, thanks to an own goal by Erik Janěa and a finish by Dan Ndoye. Scotland recorded their first win under Sébastian Pocognoli, beating North Macedonia 2-0, with Kieron Bowie scoring and Andy Robertson earning his 100th cap. Finland’s Leo Walta joined Kane and Yamal as joint top scorers in the competition, with four goals to his name.
