Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Saturday that his government has carried out extensive development work over the past four and a half years, contrasting it with the 22 years of Congress and Akali rule. Speaking at the Lok Milni programme in Fatehgarh Sahib, Mann highlighted a shift from what he calls ‘Kaam Ki Rajneeti’ to a focus on delivering tangible benefits to ordinary citizens.

Mann listed education, healthcare, electricity, irrigation, employment and infrastructure as key areas where his administration has concentrated on delivery. He emphasized that government schools, long neglected, are being upgraded with improved infrastructure and modern facilities to provide students with a competitive environment. The chief minister also noted that about 90 per cent of households now receive free electricity and that a health initiative offers treatment coverage up to Rs 10 lakh.

In addition to social services, the government has expanded canal irrigation, with water reaching 88 per cent of agricultural fields. Mann said this expansion reduces farmers’ dependence on groundwater and supports the agricultural economy while protecting natural resources. He also mentioned financial support for mothers and sisters as part of a welfare‑oriented strategy.

Mann concluded that Punjab’s challenges—unemployment, drug abuse, declining groundwater levels, inadequate infrastructure and weak public institutions—require sustained policy intervention rather than temporary announcements. He urged continuous focus on public welfare to achieve lasting development.
