On 1 October, in New Delhi, Assam’s Royal Global University (RGU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Coast Guard to provide scholarship support for the dependents and wards of defence personnel. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both organisations, including RGU’s Registrar Academics, Dr D N Singh, and Coast Guard representatives DIG Narendra Singh, DIG JS Malik, and Commandant Soniya Singh.
Under the agreement, RGU will offer two scholarship schemes – Royal Shaurya and Royal Suraksha – to eligible families and students. The Royal Shaurya Scholarship provides a 100 % tuition fee waiver to families of martyrs and gallantry awardees, while the Royal Suraksha Scholarship offers a 50 % tuition fee concession to the wards of serving and retired defence personnel.
The schemes cover a broad range of beneficiaries, including serving personnel, ex‑servicemen, personnel with disabilities, and those who have died in service. Dr D N Singh highlighted that the collaboration will strengthen RGU’s initiatives to support defence families and expand access to higher education.
Eligible candidates may apply for RGU’s undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across disciplines such as science, engineering, management, commerce, architecture, pharmacy, law, humanities, social sciences, fine arts, design, sports, and paramedical and allied health sciences. The initiative aims to reduce the financial burden of higher education and create new opportunities for students from defence families.
