Aizawl, Oct 2 – A car accident near Sataek village, about 30 km south of Aizawl, claimed the lives of three central government officials, including Doordarshan Director Nampibou Marinmai and Press Information Bureau Additional Director General Engam Pame.
The officials were returning to Aizawl after planting a memorial tree in Sialsuk village for Pame’s brother. During the drive, the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The driver, Gojendro Dey, suffered severe injuries and was admitted to Zoram Medical College and Hospital.
The bodies of Marinmai and Pame were taken to ZMCH for post‑mortem on Thursday night, with the examination scheduled for Friday. After the autopsy, their remains will be sent to their native towns in Manipur. The driver’s condition remains critical.
Representatives of the Mizoram Journalists’ Association visited the hospital to pay respects, and state leaders – Chief Minister Lalduhoma, MNF president Zoramthanga and Mizoram Congress unit president Lal Thanzara – issued statements of condolence, describing the deaths as tragic and expressing solidarity with the families.
