The second edition of the Kohima District Inter‑High School Basketball Tournament began on October 1 at 13 Assam Rifles, D Block, Kohima, organised by the Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA).
Neidilhou Keditsu, Director of the Directorate of Economics & Statistics of the Government of Nagaland, served as chief guest at the opening ceremony. He praised the KDBA for staging the event and urged the teams to uphold team spirit while wishing them success.
KDBA President Khrielasakuo Keretsu spoke to the players, stressing that basketball teaches discipline, teamwork, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship. He encouraged them to play with determination, support teammates, respect opponents and enjoy the game. The association, with 14 members, is focused on creating opportunities for young people to develop talent through the sport.
A total of 28 teams—19 boys’ and nine girls’—from schools across Kohima district will compete over three days, with the final round scheduled for October 3. Rev. Fr. Innocent, SDB, opened the event with an invocation, while Virienuo Sekhose performed a special number. KDBA Vice‑President (Technical) Jordan Mekro administered the oath to the participants. Students, teachers, principals and basketball enthusiasts attended the opening day.
