Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y.S. Sharmila Reddy accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of bias in favour of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding his resignation after a protest rally she attended.
Ms. Sharmila alleged that about 13 crore votes had been removed nationwide, which she said represented roughly 14 % of the country’s electorate. She called the alleged deletions a serious attack on the constitutional right to vote.
She claimed that the Election Commission of India, which is constitutionally tasked with conducting free and fair elections, had been compromised and was operating under the influence of the BJP. According to her, votes were added or deleted selectively for political purposes, with “bogus votes” created when needed and voters removed when their votes were deemed unnecessary.
Describing the CEC as a “BJP worker” and “Modi’s agent,” Ms. Sharmila urged citizens to defend their voting rights. She demanded that the CEC be either suspended or resign, and called for an inquiry into his decisions. She also demanded that Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah step down, holding them responsible for the alleged irregularities.
