Mount Tiyi College hosts historical drama competition

The Department of History at Mount Tiyi College in Wokha hosted an inter‑semester historical drama competition titled “History Comes Alive” on Thursday in the college conference hall.

Students from the 5th, 3rd and 1st semesters performed plays on “The Rise of Fascism in Italy”, “France 1789: The Cry for Liberty” and “Slavery in Ancient Greece”, respectively. Each team had 15 minutes to present their dramatized interpretation.

Dr. Libemo Kithan, head of the department, highlighted the importance of learning beyond the classroom, while Principal Dr. Bweyhunle Khing urged students to adopt practical and experiential approaches to education. Vice‑Principal Dr. Khyopenthung Tsopoe described the event as a unique academic initiative and commended the participants for their confidence, creativity and acting skills.

The performances were evaluated on historical content and accuracy, acting, dialogue delivery, costumes, creativity, stage presentation and overall impact.

The 5th‑semester team emerged as the winner, with the 3rd and 1st semesters taking first and second runner‑up positions. Individual awards were also presented: Chenithung (1st semester) received Best Actor, Hayivani Jami (5th semester) won Best Actress, Oponthung A Murry (5th semester) received Best Costume, and Tumben Erui (5th semester) was adjudged Best Narrator.
