Jamshedpur, Jharkhand – On October 3, the city’s sole JD(U) legislator, Saryu Roy, warned that crime rates are climbing as criminal networks increasingly involve drug trafficking.
Roy highlighted that young people are falling into online betting addiction and urged police and local authorities to strengthen measures to combat the growing menace.
“The menace of drug peddling and online betting has expanded rapidly in Jamshedpur, reaching schools and colleges… Crimes are rising due to the link between criminals and drugs,” Roy said during a day‑long Vichar Kranti Sammelan held in the city.
He added that the drug and betting problems are no longer merely law‑and‑order issues but pose a broader threat to youth safety and societal well‑being. Roy concluded that the police must be resolute in eradicating these rackets, as they cannot sustain themselves if enforcement is decisive.
