Manipur CM meets Pherzawl leaders on road, power, banking

In Imphal, Tipaimukh Assembly Constituency MLA Ngursanglur Sanate and civil society representatives from Pherzawl district met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday to discuss infrastructure and development concerns affecting the Hmar‑inhabited region.

The delegation urged upgrading the Jiribam‑Tipaimukh road from a district road to National Highway status, noting its potential to link NH‑37 and NH‑102 and improve access for Jiribam, Tipaimukh and surrounding communities.

They also highlighted power supply challenges and requested implementation of a proposed power‑line from Sipuikaun Power Station to Parbung, as well as extension of connections to other areas.

Additionally, the group called for a bank to be established in the district to address financial service gaps and raised concerns about the proposed Pherzawl Autonomous District Council, conveying local aspirations and issues.

Chief Minister Khemchand Singh said restoring peace and stability is a priority, stressing that security is essential for development and administrative progress. He assured the delegation that the matters would be examined and appropriate action taken. A recent peace initiative in Jiribam involving Meitei and Hmar communities, held in April, has reportedly maintained harmony between the groups.
