Staff nurse vacancies in West Khasi Hills are reportedly being sold for Rs 4 lakh, according to the VPP State Youth Wing, which called for an immediate halt to the personal interview scheduled for September 29 and 30 at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nongstoin.
The allegation comes just before the interview for candidates who passed the written test held at Nongstoin College on September 21. A notice from the District Medical and Health Officer on September 24 confirmed that 60 candidates had been shortlisted for the interview.
The youth wing said it began investigating after receiving calls from aspirants who claimed that money was being demanded in exchange for securing a staff nurse post. One candidate reportedly told the wing that he had already paid Rs 1 lakh after being asked to pay Rs 4 lakh, and that the money was requested by individuals claiming ties to elected officials. The wing has approached the Director of Health Services, demanding the interview be suspended until an inquiry is conducted.
Nongstoin MLA Gabriel Wahlang responded to the claim, stating he was unaware of any such demand and had never requested money for job placement. He said he would seek clarification from those whose names were mentioned and emphasized that he had never intervened in recruitment processes. The VPP youth wing maintains that the interview should remain on hold until the allegations are fully examined and the process is confirmed to be free of corruption.
