Sahil Wakode’s parents have requested police protection after expressing fears for their safety and alleging that the individuals they have named in connection with their son’s death could influence the investigation. Their lawyer, Advocate Nikhil Kamble, said the family approached the Mumbai Commissioner of Police, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) and the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) for assistance.
The parents have accused IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare and Prof. Suryanarayana Doolla of involvement in Wakode’s death. Kamble noted that the family believes the two professors are influential figures and fears they could interfere with the inquiry or pose a direct threat. The allegations remain unverified by independent sources.
Kamble also raised concerns about a possible leak of CCTV footage related to the case and the failure to arrest the accused, which he said undermines the preservation and confidentiality of evidence. He added that the inquiry committee set up by IIT Bombay has not contacted the family.
The family will continue a hunger strike at Azad Maidan on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a protest that has been permitted by the local police station. Despite repeated demands for action, no representative from the Maharashtra government has approached the parents so far.
