Preparations are underway at the Chibragre Wangala venue in Meghalaya for the 50th Golden Jubilee celebration of the Wangala Festival. Workers and members of the Wangala Committee are engaged in arrangements around the clock, aiming to complete the work within the limited time available.
The Wangala Festival, traditionally celebrated with 100 drums, will feature a special performance involving 1,000 drums as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. The event will showcase the cultural traditions, music and dance of the Garo community, who observe the festival as a harvest thanksgiving and a means to preserve their heritage.
Wangala Committee Chairman Ronald Rikman said the organising committee faces many challenges but is working with dedication and responsibility. “This is not just another festival—it is the 50th Golden Jubilee of Wangala,” Rikman said. “We pray to the Almighty to guide us, support us and bless our efforts.”
The organisers expect visitors from different parts of India and abroad. Arrangements are being made to allow guests to experience traditional Garo music, dance and other cultural performances. With the preparations progressing at the Chibragre venue, the Golden Jubilee edition is set to bring together traditional performances and cultural activities centred on the heritage of the Garo community.
